It's finally happening...

Drum-roll please! We have finally gotten everything sorted to sell the house. Our signs (when you live on a golf course you put up two signs, one on the street and the other on the course) go in the yard on Tuesday, we get a lockbox, and we have a realtors open house that day as well.

We have finished most of the little renovation projects we had to do to stage the house and make it more sell-able. This included refinishing trim board, replacing grout/caulk in a few areas of the kitchen/bath, putting up drapery rods and curtains, adding a nice huge mirror to the master bath, and replacing the miss-matched granite kitchen island. We now have a lovely big butcher block island, which I've always wanted and which will match the bar we are adding. The addition of a new bar top on our kitchen counter peninsula is the last project, which Hubs is furiously working to finish up before Tuesday. Once it's all done I'll share some before/after photos with you guys.

Now comes the big waiting game...which is silly to say because I already feel like I've waited an eternity since selling Rose just to get to this point, and really, we are no where near the halfway point of our horse property dream. None the less, it is almost heart wrenching seeing all these yearlings and planned 2014 foals for sale. I want to get the ball rolling on my next G-baby so badly it hurts. But, I really don't want to be paying to board a foal and I want it at home once it is weaned so that I can start the training/bonding aspect of our partnership as soon as possible. So, I have to find the willpower and patience to wait, and just keep telling myself that waiting one more year and bringing home a 2015 foal will be just fine. It will be just as cute, athletic, and wonderful as a 2014 foal.

I think I am mostly just getting caught up in my head doing the number game based on my age. I turn 37 this year. Will I really be fit enough to start a three year old when I turn 40? Oh, my goodness, typing that just made me feel really old. Seriously, aside from my tiger stripes (apparently the "cool" term for mommy stretch marks) I still feel like I'm 25. I am just dreading waking up one morning to mysterious arthritis or a bad back due to not having ridden in a few years and then suddenly having to face the fact that I am actually the age I am. Gah! Well, back to the point. We are one step closer to our horse property dream, and I am really excited for Tuesday's open house to get feedback from all the Realtors. Hopefully it sells faster than we anticipate!

2014 Goals

The lists of horse goals have been flying around the blog community. Although happy to read everyone else's exciting goals, I was rather glum about it as I scoffed at myself saying "no horse goals for me". Sucky Poo Poo. Then I realized that I do have horse goals for 2014! Given that 2014 is the year of the horse, I really aught to focus my positive energy on those goals, regardless of how seemingly insignificant they might be at the moment. In all actuality they are probably some of the most significant horse goals I've ever had. Without further adieu, I give you:

MY 2014 HORSE GOALS

1. Sell golf course house and purchase acreage (5-20 acres).
2. Build new house, shop, hay barn, run in sheds, fencing, and round pen and/or lit outdoor arena.
3. Stop Window Shopping Purchase or breed a Gatsby baby.
4. Get back in shape Pick up a husband horse and/or project horse (OTTB) to ride and be a babysitter for the foal.
5. Depending on acreage, get 1-2 boarders (or a goat) so my one horse doesn't lose it's marbles.

It's a short list, but in all reality a hefty one. I think No. 1 will happen this year and No. 2 will get started but probably won't be complete until 2015. That means No.'s 3 -5 will most likely roll into 2015, but that just fine. The timing will work well with JR starting preschool, and I don't need another baby on my hands until the one I currently have is potty trained. That would be my baby goal of 2014!

And the winner is...

Thank you everyone that sent in photos for my portrait contest. It was actually really hard to pick a winner, as there were so many wonderful and sentimental photos sent in. However, I had to stick with overall composition and contrast of light and shadows on the horses bodies which works best with my style of painting. Drum roll please...

The winner is Dom from A Collection of Madcap Escapades. This is a photo of her standard bred gelding Oz.

To my lucky winner: no promises on when it will be ready, but I am hoping for the end of January but more likely sometime in February. I'll be in touch via email when it is ready. Thank you all so much for sending in entries and I hope everyone is enjoying the new year.
